MORE POP: With the help of Espen Lind, Sissel Kyrkjebø will be relaunched as a fresh, pop diva in the Spring of 2001.

ESPEN LIND will freshen up Sissel.

As soon as Lind is finished with his own album, he will write songs and produce material for Sissel's long-anticipated album. The recording company they both have in common, Universal Music, will now use Norwegian efforts to create Sissel's new album, after the USA plans were put on ice.

Dagbladet has confirmed from Universal that Lind has been asked to work with Sissel.

Out Six Million
Sissel and her manager, Arne Svare, have spent two years and six million Norwegian Crowns ($750,000 US) to record an album they have now decided to reject.

Sissel went to the USA first in January 1998 to work with the successful producer Rick Chertoff, who has worked closely with artists such as Joan Osborne and Cindy Lauper.

But the many long recording sessions in the USA and traveling back and forth between home in Copenhagen and the studios over there have cost more than it was worth.

"We are not satisfied with what we accomplished in the USA," said Svare.

Starting at Zero
"Now we're starting at zero. We have decided to begin completely from scratch," said Arne Svare to Dagbladet.

The result is that Sissel is now hooked up with the following Norwegian producers and songwriters:

Jørn Dahl, the producer behind Lene Marlin's international million-selling "Playing My Game" and member of Stray.

Stargate, the Trondheim-based producing and songwriting team consisting of Tor Erik Hermansen, Hallgeir Rustan og Mikkel S. Eriksen, which has had five top-three hits in England in the past year.

And now also Espen Lind who, with his own successful album "Red" (1997), has written songs for Jan Werner and Torhild Sivertsen. Lind wants very much to work with Sissel. Only a new snag in the timeline of his own album recording can hinder his helping Sissel.

Pop Diva
"We're revving up for a songwriting period from May until July. After summer vacation the recording will begin. The most important thing now is to find a sound," said Svare.

"A few of the USA songs are usable, but must be reworked. Otherwise the album will not be cohesive," Svare emphasized.

The collaborators which have been chosen say that Sissel is going in a more pop and cutting edge direction than before. Espen Lind's task is to supply Sissel with a couple of good songs and a modern sound quality so that Sissel can be relaunched as a fresh pop diva in the Spring of 2001.
