Sissel New UNICEF Ambassador

According to the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten, Sissel Kyrkjebø has been named a new Norwegian ambassador for the United Nations children's fund UNICEF, and will work to promote their efforts at home and internationally.
Sissel is one of Norway's most respected cultural exports, according to Aftenposten.
A UNICEF ambassador pledges to spotlight children's rights and the fund's work, and the title assumes commitment to the organization's goals.
"It is a vote of confidence to be able to work with UNICEF and their global efforts to help children," Sissel said.
Other Norwegian UNICEF ambassadors are sporting stars Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Johann Olav Koss and supermodel Vendela Kirsebom.
Sissel's first assignment as a UNICEF ambassador will be to highlight the impact of HIV/AIDS on children.
Besides marking the organization's global AIDS campaign with UNICEF Norway on International AIDS day on Dec. 1, Sissel will also make a trip to Mozambique during 2006, where she will learn more about the UNICEF AIDS program there.
