Writer / Director: Robert A Jones
Robert grew
up in a household where film was paramount. Nearly everything in his family life revolved around his
mother's love of film. When he was a child, he often proclaimed he would be a famous actor some day.
His mother said she thought he would rather be a director. It seems she was right, since Robert has
been directing short films over the years and "The Truth of God" is his first
feature-length documentary.Several years in the making, this film was born of an idea sparked from Robert's experiences in New York. Robert worked as a festival manager for the Israel Film Festival and a film programer for the Newport (R.I.) Film Festival while living in Manhattan. During the Israel Film Festival, a gay Israeli TV series, Eytan Fox's "Florentine," was screened which featured the first gay characters on Israeli TV. Robert was also drawn in by Michael Burke's short film "Fishbelly White," which he saw while programming the Newport festival.
In the midst of all this, Robert was coming to grips with his own sexuality and finally accepted that he was gay.
After moving home to Utah, he went to work for the Sundance Film Festival as a graphic designer and later marketing production manager for two years. It was here that Robert finally realized he had a story to tell. The experiences of his fellow gay Mormons.
